    Hole-in-the-Head Disease:

Symptoms include pitting and erosion of skin and muscle tissue around the face and side of body. Many infected fish exhibit poor appetite, weight loss and nervousness.

    Wasting Disease:

Fish parasites transmitted fromn fish to fish cause emaciation, anemia and lethargy.Tissue damage leading to subsequent ulceration of the gastrointestinal tract. Excess mucus and white stringy feces are often produced as a result of parasitic invasion.

    Swollen Abdomen:

Fish infected with tapeworms (cestodes), often have an extended or swollen abdomen. Internal area of attachment results in damaged tissue. Fish normally show signs of reduction ingrowth and general malaise.

    Treatment Tips

Quarantine aquarium. Remove any dead fish immediately. Do not remove or add any live fish to the infected aquarium. Parasitic infections are highly contagious and can spread to other aquariums by nets, algae scrapers and wet hands.

To speed up the life cycle of parasites and shorten treatment period, raise water temperature to 82 F (28 C).

To aid osmoreregulation and ease stress of infected fish, add 1 tablespoon of API AQUARIUM SALT for each 5 gallons (19 L) of aquarium water, or 1 -1/4 cup for each 100 gallons (378 L).

This medication may be used in combination with API antibacterial medications, including API MELAFIX, to help prevent scondary bacterial infection.
