What is the most important information I should know about mirtazapine tablets USP?

Mirtazapine tablets USP and other antidepressant medicines may cause serious side effects, including:

Mirtazapine tablets USP are a prescription medicine used to treat depression. It is important to talk with your healthcare provider about the risks of treating depression and also the risks of not treating it. You should discuss all treatment choices with your healthcare provider.

What should I tell my healthcare provider before taking mirtazapine tablets USP? Ask if you are not sure.

Before starting mirtazapine tablets USP, tell your healthcare provider if you:

Tell your healthcare provider about all the medicines that you take, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Mirtazapine tablets USP and some medicines may interact with each other, may not work as well, or may cause serious side effects.

Your healthcare provider or pharmacist can tell you if it is safe to take mirtazapine tablets USP with your other medicines. Do not start or stop any medicine while taking mirtazapine tablets USP without talking to your healthcare provider first.

If you take mirtazapine tablets USP, you should not take any other medicines that contain mirtazapine including mirtazapine orally disintegrating tablets.

How should I take mirtazapine tablets USP?

  • Take mirtazapine tablets USP exactly as prescribed. Your healthcare provider may need to change the dose of mirtazapine tablets USP until it is the right dose for you.
  • Take mirtazapine tablets USP at the same time each day, preferably in the evening at bedtime.
  • Swallow mirtazapine tablets USP as directed.
  • It is common for antidepressant medicines such as mirtazapine tablets USP to take up to a few weeks before you start to feel better. Do not stop taking mirtazapine tablets USP if you do not feel results right away.
  • Do not stop taking or change the dose of mirtazapine tablets USP without first talking to your doctor, even if you feel better.
  • Mirtazapine tablets USP may be taken with or without food.
  • If you miss a dose of mirtazapine tablets USP, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regular time. Do not take two doses of mirtazapine tablets USP at the same time.
  • If you take too many mirtazapine tablets USP, call your healthcare provider or poison control center right away, or get emergency treatment.

What should I avoid while taking mirtazapine tablets USP?

  • Mirtazapine tablets USP can cause sleepiness or may affect your ability to make decisions, think clearly, or react quickly. You should not drive, operate heavy machinery, or do other dangerous activities until you know how mirtazapine tablets USP affect you.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol or taking diazepam (a medicine used for anxiety, insomnia and seizures, for example) or similar medicines while taking mirtazapine tablets USP. If you are uncertain about whether certain medication can be taken with mirtazapine tablets USP, please discuss with your doctor.

What are the possible side effects of mirtazapine tablets USP?

Mirtazapine tablets USP may cause serious side effects, including all of those described in the section entitled “What is the most important information I should know about mirtazapine tablets USP?

Common possible side effects in people who take mirtazapine tablets USP include:

  • sleepiness
  • increased appetite, weight gain
  • dry mouth
  • constipation
  • dizziness
  • abnormal dreams

  • Store mirtazapine tablets USP at room temperature 20° to 25°C (68° to 77°F).

What are the ingredients in mirtazapine tablets USP?

Active ingredient: mirtazapine, USP

Inactive ingredients: colloidal silicon dioxide, starch, hypromellose, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, polyethylene glycol 400, polyethylene glycol 6000, povidone, and titanium dioxide. The 15 mg tablet also contains iron oxide yellow. The 30 mg tablet also contains iron oxide red and iron oxide yellow.
