PINWORM
TREATMENT
DESCRIPTION
Each chewable tablet for oral administration contains:
Pyrantel pamoate ..................................720.5 mg
(equivalent to 250 mg pyrantel base)
Also contains aspartame, citric acid, colloidal silicon dioxide, croscarmellose sodium, dextrose, FD&C yellow #6 lake, flavors, magnesium stearate, maltodextrin, sorbitol and stearic acid.
CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY
Pin-X has demonstrated anthelmintic activity against Enterobius vermicularis (pinworm) and Ascaris lumbricoides (common roundworm). The anthelmintic action is probably due to the neuromuscular blocking property of the drug. Pin-X is partially absorbed after an oral dose. Plasma levels of unchanged drug are low. Peak levels (0.05 - 0.13 micrograms per milliliter) are reached in 1-3 hours. Quantities greater than 50% of administered drug are excreted in feces as the unchanged form, whereas only 7% or less of the dose is found in urine as the unchanged form of the drug and its metabolites.
Symptoms suggestive of pinworm infestation:
Pruritis Ani (itching in the anal area), insomnia, gastrointestinal distress, irritability, enuresis (bed wetting) and secondary infection due to localized scratching are symptoms of pinworms. However, you should make a visual inspection and confirmation of the pinworms before using this product.
How to find and identify the pinworm:
A pinworm is a small round worm that lives in the body of other animals. They are 1/4 to 1/2 inch long and have white bodies and pointed tails. There are several kinds of pinworms, however, only one kind, Enterobius vermicularis, commonly infects human beings. The worms can usually be detected during the hours of sleep when the worm migrates out of the anus onto the surrounding skin.
The life cycle of the pinworm:
The young worms live in the upper part of the large intestine. When they are ready to lay eggs, they crawl down the rectum and out the intestinal opening called the anus, usually at night. They lay eggs on the surrounding skin. This movement causes swelling and severe itching.
How pinworms are spread and how to avoid spreading:
The eggs fall off into the bedding or clothing and may be picked up under the fingernails in scratching. If the eggs are swallowed, they reach the intestine and become adult pinworms. Therefore, to avoid the spreading of pinworms all areas should be as clean as possible.

Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.
WARNINGS
KEEP THIS AND ALL DRUGS OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN. In case of accidental overdose, seek professional assistance or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.
Abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, or dizziness sometimes occur after taking this drug. If any of these conditions persist, consult a doctor. If you are pregnant or have liver disease, do not take this product unless directed by a doctor.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Read package insert carefully before taking this medication. Take only according to directions and do not exceed the recommended dosage unless directed by a doctor. Medication should only be taken one time as a single dose; do not repeat treatment unless directed by a doctor. When one individual in a household has pinworms, the entire household should be treated unless otherwise advised. See WARNINGS. If any worms other than pinworms are present before or after treatment, consult a doctor. If any symptoms or pinworms are still present after treatment, consult a doctor. This product can be taken any time of day, with or without meals. It may be taken alone or with milk or fruit juice. Use of a laxative is not necessary prior to, during, or after medication.
Adults and children 2 years to under 12 years of age: oral dosage is a single dose of 5 milligrams of pyrantel base per pound, or 11 milligrams per kilogram, of body weight not to exceed 1 gram. Dosage information is summarized on the following schedule:

HOW SUPPLIED
Pin-X Chewable Tablets are supplied as round, flat faced, orange color, orange flavored chewable tablets with Pin-X debossed on one side and bisected on the other, in bottles of 12.
Store at 15°-30°C (59°-86°F).

DESCRIPCIÓN
Cada comprimido masticable para administración por vía oral contiene:
Pamoato de pirantel..............................720,5 mg

También contiene aspartamo, ácido cítrico, dióxido de silicio coloidal, croscarmelosa de sodio, dextrosa, colorante FD&C amarillo no.6 de laca, sabores, estearato magnésico, maltodextrina, sorbitol y ácido esteárico.
FARMACOLOGÍA CLÍNICA
Pin-X ha demostrado actividad antihelmíntica contra Enterobius vermicularis (lombrices intestinales) y Ascaris lumbricoides (gusano común de la clase nematodo). La acción antihelmíntica se debe probablemente a la propiedad del medicamento de bloquear la actividad neuromuscular. El Pin-X se absorbe parcialmente después de una dosis administrada por vía oral. Los niveles de medicamento no alterado en plasma son bajos. Los niveles pico (de 0,05 a 0,13 microgramos por mililitro) se alcanzan en 1 a 3 horas. Cantidades de más del 50% del medicamento administrado se excretan en las heces, en la forma no alterada, mientras que solamente un 7% o menos de la dosis se encuentra en la orina en la forma no alterada del medicamento y sus metabolitos.
Síntomas que sugieren una infestación por lombrices intestinales:
Pruritis Ani (picazón en el área del ano), insomnio, problemas gastrointestinales, irritabilidad, enuresis (orinarse en la cama) e infecciones secundarias locales como resultado de rascarse son síntomas de la presencia de lombrices intestinales. No obstante, deberá hacerse una inspección visual y confirmarse la presencia de lombrices intestinales antes de usar este producto.
Cómo encontrar e identificar las lombrices intestinales:
Las lombrices intestinales son lombrices pequeñas de forma redonda que viven en el cuerpo de otros animales. Miden entre 1/4 y 1/2 pulgada de largo (de 0,5 a 1,5 centímetros) y tienen cuerpos de color blanco con colas en punta. Existen varios tipos de lombrices intestinales. Sin embargo, solamente un tipo, la Enterobius vermicularis, infecta comúnmente a los seres humanos. Por lo general, las lombrices pueden detectarse durante las horas en las que las personas duermen, cuando la lombriz sale del ano a la piel que lo rodea.
El ciclo de vida de las lombrices intestinales:
Las lombrices jóvenes viven en la parte superior del intestino grueso. Cuando les llega el momento de poner huevos, descienden por el recto y salen por el orificio intestinal conocido como el ano, por lo general durante la noche, y ponen sus huevos en la piel que lo rodea. Este movimiento causa hinchazón y picazón muy intensa.
Cómo se propagan las lombrices intestinales y cómo evitar la propagación:
Los huevos se desprenden y caen en la ropa de cama o en las prendas de vestir y pueden recogerse con las uñas y quedar bajo las uñas al rascarse. Si los huevos se tragan, éstos llegan al intestino y se convierten en lombrices adultas. Por consiguiente, para evitar la propagación de las lombrices intestinales, todas las áreas deberán mantenerse lo más limpias que sea posible.

Algunas veces pueden ocurrir espasmos abdominales, náusea, vómito, diarrea, dolor de cabeza o vértigo después de tomar este medicamento. Consulte a un médico si cualquiera de estas condiciones persiste. Si usted está embarazada o sufre de una enfermedad hepática, no tome este producto a menos que un médico le indique que lo haga.
INSTRUCCIONES PARA EL USO
Lea el prospecto detenidamente antes de tomar este medicamento. Tómelo solamente de acuerdo con las instrucciones y no exceda la dosis recomendada, a menos que un médico le indique lo contrario. El medicamento solamente debe tomarse una vez, como una dosis única. No repita el tratamiento, a menos que un médico le indique que lo haga. Cuando una de las personas que viven en una vivienda tiene lombrices intestinales, todas las personas que viven en esa vivienda deberán recibir el tratamiento, a menos que se les aconseje lo contrario. Refiérase a las ADVERTENCIAS. Si lombrices que no sean las lombrices intestinales están presentes antes o después del tratamiento, consulte a un médico. Si continúa habiendo síntomas o lombrices intestinales después del tratamiento, consulte a un médico. Este producto puede tomarse a cualquier hora del día, con o sin comida. Puede tomarse solo o con leche o jugo de fruta. No es necesario usar un laxante antes, durante o después de tomar el medicamento.
Adultos y niños de los 2 años de edad hasta los 12 años de edad: la dosis de administración oral es una dosis única de 5 miligramos de base de pirantel por libra de peso corporal, o de 11 miligramos por kilogramo de peso corporal, sin que esta dosis exceda 1 gramo. PRESENTACIÓN
Los comprimidos masticables Pin-X vienen en la forma de comprimidos masticables de forma redonda, caras planas, de color anaranjado y sabor de naranja, con la marca Pin-X estampada en bajo relieve en un lado y bisecada en el otro, en frascos de 12 unidades.
